The Mount Greenwood neighborhood is located on the southwest side of Chicago approximately 16 miles from the "Loop".. It neighbors the Chicago neighborhood of Beverly to the east, the suburb of Evergreen Park to the north, the suburb of Oak Lawn to the west, and the suburb of Merrionette Park to the south.

Mount Greenwood has become a haven for city workers and is home to many Chicago firefighters and police officers. Named as one of Chicago's safest neighborhoods by Chicago Magazine in September 2013 when they noted that Mount Greenwood was home to 1,418 sworn officers.
